Contract: Fixed Term - 3 years 

Hours: 8 hours per week

Salary: £7500 per annum (£150 per day based on 50 days per year)

Location of work: Work from Home with access to transport to Radstock, Somerset


Evolve Music is looking for an experienced freelance arts fundraiser with a strong track record in attracting both project and core funding for arts organisations. 

The key purpose of this role is to work closely with the Programme Development Manager to support the development of Evolve Music’s core music programmes.This will include researching, writing funding proposals and developing relationships with trusts and foundations, larger national funders such as Youth Music and Arts Council England and other donors.

The ideal candidate will require energy, enthusiasm for community arts projects and will have a good understanding of ways to diversify funding streams for small charities. The post-holder will develop a fundraising strategy with the Board of Trustees which will allow the organisation to develop, grow and increase its impact. 

This is a new role in the organisation, made possible by funding from St John’s Foundation and presents an exciting opportunity for the post-holder to grow in the role and shape the future of the organisation. 

The Role:

  • Develop a fundraising strategy to support Evolve Music’s programme development 
  • Write and submit funding applications for all project delivery and future core funding
  • Build and develop relationships with local, regional and national funders including trusts and foundations, sponsors, donors and Arts Council England
  • Report funding outcomes to the Board of Trustees on a regular basis 
  • Work closely with the Programme Development Manager to identify potential funders for future projects 
  • Increase income from individuals, trusts and foundations, public funding bodies and businesses as relevant
  • Contribute to and help to maintain a detailed fundraising roadmap; regularly evaluate, review and adjust planning as necessary
  • Identify and propose new fundraising opportunities and initiatives


Personal Specification:

Will need access to own transport to attend meetings based in Radstock and the Somer Valley area. 

Essential: 

  • A minimum of 6 years of fundraising experience 
  • A strong track record of successfully securing funding from both trusts and foundations as well as public funding bodies 
  • Donor management, including preparing detailed funder reports
  • A positive and enthusiastic approach to fundraising 
  • Experience of managing and monitoring budgets
  • Excellent time management; ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Understanding of socially engaged community arts practice 
  • IT literacy with an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent time management; ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Understanding of the subsidised/charity sector
  • Ability to start in January 2020


Desirable: 

  • Past experience of fundraising for community music projects 
  • Experience of developing a funding cash flow and deliverable action plan
  • Knowledge of community music sector and local grant makers in Somerset
  • Experience of securing gifts from individual donors

Programme Development Manger

Contract: 3 year - Fixed Term (freelance)

Hours: 8 hours per week

Salary: £6000 per annum (£120 per day based on 50 days per year)

Location of work: Work from Home with access to transport to Radstock, Somerset. 

The Programme Development Manager will work closely with the Board of Trustees and Founders of Evolve Music to grow and develop all existing core programmes and develop new ones. 

The key purpose of this role is to spearhead Evolve Music’s delivery strategy by developing and expanding the programme of creative music projects across our three beneficiary strands: Families, Young People and Adults. As Programme Development Manager you will identify and investigate opportunities for new programmes and form strong relationships both in the Somer Valley area and across the South West which will allow Evolve Music to increase its reach and impact. 

You will work closely with Evolve Music’s freelance fundraiser to create programmes and take them from an initial idea and see them through to fruition. 

The ideal candidate will be a self starter that is motivated by building and strengthening partnerships to support local communities through grassroots accessible music-making.  

This is a new role in the organisation, supported by funding from St John’s Foundation and  presents an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to grow in the role and shape the future of Evolve’s programmes. 

The Role:

  • Work closely with the Board of Trustees to strategically to develop Evolve Music’s community music programme 
  • Develop and grow relationships and strong partnerships with local and regional organisations and community groups
  • Represent Evolve Music on a local, regional and national level by attending arts networking and community music events
  • Line manage our Project Coordinator who is looking after our Explorers Early Intervention project
  • Regularly observe programme delivery, to ensure high quality experience and engagement 
  • Create and manage project budgets and cash flow documents
  • Communicate regularly with the Freelance Fundraiser, supporting funding applications where required

Essential: 

  • Help create, articulate and implement a strong vision and distinctive identity for Evolve
  • Experience of strategic development that contributes to business planning within an arts organisation
  • Financial acumen with experience of creating project budgets, cash flow spreadsheets and produce financial reports
  • A minimum of 6 years working in the arts and cultural sector
  • A positive and enthusiastic approach to work
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines
  • Strong people management skills and experience of line managing a small team
  • Demonstrable knowledge of socially engaged community arts practice 
  • IT literacy with an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Be able to communicate clearly and listen and understand people's needs
  • Understanding of the subsidised/charity sector
  • Be able to report confidently and clearly to a Board of Trustees
  • Ability to start in January 2020

Desirable: 

  • Experience of monitoring/evaluating projects
  • Understanding of marketing strategies that include digital and print based marketing 
  • Knowledge of community music sector in Somerset
